Played with 2 to 6 players using 2 standard 52-card decks plus 2 printed Jokers. Each player is dealt 13 cards.
1. Objective of the Game
The primary goal in 13-card Indian Rummy is to arrange all 13 dealt cards into valid Sequences and Sets, then make a valid declaration with 0 points.
To declare a hand successfully, you must satisfy two golden conditions:
- Condition 1: You must create at least two sequences.
- Condition 2: At least one of these sequences must be a Pure Sequence (without any Joker substitution).
2. What is a Pure Sequence?
A Pure Sequence consists of three or more consecutive cards belonging to the exact same suit, formed without the use of any Joker as a substitute card.
Note: A wild joker used in its original value and suit (for instance, 8♠ when 8 is the wild joker in 7♠ 8♠ 9♠) is still considered a Pure Sequence.
3. What is an Impure Sequence?
An Impure Sequence is a group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit in which one or more cards are substituted by a Printed Joker (PJ) or a designated Wild Joker (WJ).
4. What is a Set?
A Set consists of three or four cards of the same numerical rank, but belonging to different suits. A set may also use Jokers to fill missing cards.
A set can NEVER contain two cards of the same suit. For example: 5♥ 5♥ 5♠ is strictly INVALID because it contains two 5 of Hearts.
5. Card Values & Scoring System
In Indian Rummy, players aim to minimize un-melded points. The player who declares with a valid hand gets 0 points. Losing players accumulate negative penalty points based on the cards remaining in their hand:
| Face Cards (A, K, Q, J) | 10 Points Each |
|---|---|
| Numbered Cards (2, 3, 4 ... 10) | Face Value (e.g. 5 = 5 pts, 8 = 8 pts) |
| Printed & Wild Jokers | 0 Points |
| Maximum Loss Cap | 80 Points (Maximum loss per deal in Points Rummy) |
6. Safe Drops (Fold Penalties)
If your dealt hand contains weak cards, zero jokers, or unconnected face cards, you can execute a strategic Drop to minimize your point loss:
- First Drop (Initial): Dropping before picking your first card incurs a penalty of only 20 points.
- Middle Drop: Dropping after playing at least one turn incurs a penalty of 40 points.
- Wrong Declaration: Declaring an invalid combination incurs the maximum penalty of 80 points.
7. Popular Max Rummy Game Formats
Max Rummy offers three certified variants tailored to your pace and strategy preference:
- Points Rummy: The fastest format. Played for a pre-decided rupee value per point (e.g., ₹1/pt, ₹5/pt). The winner receives points won from opponents minus a nominal platform fee.
- Pool Rummy (101 / 201): Players are eliminated as their accumulated points reach the pool ceiling (101 or 201). The last remaining player takes the grand prize pool.
- Deals Rummy: Played over a fixed number of deals (Best of 2 or 3). Chips are redistributed at the end of each round; the player with the highest chip count at the end wins.
